1 UNCHARTED 3

There's only so much you can say about Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception because the real "OMG" moments come when you watch the game in action. The light of a fire dancing across Nathan Drake's face, the French chateau crumbling beneath Sully's feet and the brand new melee moves our hero is dishing out -- Uncharted's back.Even if developer Naughty Dog had only just taken the Uncharted 2 engine, tossed in a new story, and put it on a disc, we'd be excited -- remember that the sequel won our game of the year 2009 award -- but the fact that the company has overhauled everything we knew, made it look even slicker and is promising even more multiplayer awesomeness means that we're going nuts over here. Nathan's going to new places, and we definitely want to go along.

Developer: Naughty Dog | Publisher: Sony | Arrives: Nov. 1, 2011
Key Characters: Nathan Drake, Victor "Sully" Sullivan

48
Number of Trophies for Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. DLC added more.

Succeeds if breaks the mold and gives us an entertaining and excited romp through the Uncharted universe.
Fails if if Naughty Dog fires everyone and releases Uncharted Kart Racing.

2 MASS EFFECT 3

It's hard to deny that in the realm of multi-platform releases, Mass Effect 3 might be the most anticipated of them all. From the minds of BioWare, Mass Effect 3 rounds out the Mass Effect trilogy in a way that hits pretty close to home. While the first two Mass Effect titles took place far from our solar system, Mass Effect 3's introductory trailer shows Earth being bombarded and destroyed by creatures and robots that have already landed on its surface. We never got much closer to Earth than landing on the Moon during the original Mass Effect. It's pretty clear, though, that Mass Effect 3 is set to change all of that.Perhaps the best news about Mass Effect 3 for the PlayStation 3 faithful is that we're going to get the game on the same date everybody else does. Even though Mass Effect 2 is primed to be released in mid-January on the PS3, a full year after it already saw the light of day on Xbox 360 and PC, it wasn't clear whether Mass Effect 3 would be a timed exclusive as well. So revel in the facts, PS3 owners. You, too, can now enjoy the finest franchise of the entire generation at the same time everybody else does.

Developer: BioWare | Publisher: EA | Arrives: Holiday 2011
Key Characters: Commander Shepard

3.6
Billions of miles (on average) between the Earth and Pluto's moon Charon, the very first Mass Relay found by humanity.

Succeeds if it continues the franchise's rich tradition of solid story-telling and quality action-oriented gameplay (with an RPG twist).
Fails if it in any way tries to integrate multiplayer functionality.

3 Battlefield 3

Battlefield 3 will be the latest installment in the long running Battlefield franchise that originally started with Battlefield 1942. BF3 is a common shorthand term for the game and it is short for Battlefield 3. A common misconception is that Battlefield 3 is really Bad Company 3, this is not the case. In fact, BF3 is the sequel to the sleeper hit of 2005, Battlefield 2. The game will be produced by DICE, a swedish game development firm and will be published by EA Games. DICE & EA Games have produced all the past Battlefield's thus far. Past Battlefield games and their add-ons/expansions:

Battlefield 1942
Battlefield 1942: Road To Rome
Battlefield 1942: Secret Weapons of WW2
Battlefield Vietnam
Battlefield 2: Modern Combat
Battlefield 2
Battlefield 2: Special Forces
Battlefield 2: European Forces
Battlefield 2: Armored Fury
Battlefield 2142
Battlefield 2142: Northern Strike
Battlefield: Heroes
Battlefield: Bad Company
Battlefield 1943
Battlefield: Bad Company 2
Battlefield Play4Free

About Battlefield 3:

BF3 will be using the Frostbite 2.0 engine. This engine is commonly thought to be the engine behind BF:BC - BF:BC2. However, DICE has made it clear that no games have ever used the technology of Frostbite 2. Frostbite 2 will probably offer the best environmental, audio, and graphical advancements in a multi-console game ever. Better yet, Battlefield 3 will be the one to lead the new engine technology. Expectations of the engine are based off of previous improvements from 1.0 - 1.5, expect better sound, better physics, a more destructable environment, improved textures, and real-time weather changing.

Battlefield 3 is expected to be set in the modern warfare era. Expected factions include the US military, Middle Eastern Coalition, China, and/or Russia. The maps are expected to be larger than BC2 maps with more vehicles and game play improvements over past Battlefields.

Battlefield 3 Release Date:

Battlefield 3 has been rumored to be in production since late 2007, when a PDF was leaked online. It is now suggested that this PDF was actually discussing the Battlefield: Heroes game (since released.) However, the game has been in development or at least confirmed since summer 2009 when EA's COO stated that "Battlefield is looking good." However, it wasn't until July 30th 2010 that the world really ended up hearing about Battlefield 3. On this date, EA announced that purchasers of the Medal of Honor: Limited Edition game would get an invite to the Battlefield 3 beta within 12 months of Medal of Honor's release (October 12, 2010.) This date has come and passed, while no Battlefield 3 news has come yet, expect it soon.

4 RESISTANCE 3

The Resistance franchise first graced the PlayStation 3 upon its launch in 2006, with the title Resistance: Fall of Man. A quality first-person shooter set in a slowly-devolving apocalyptic setting, Resistance not only played well, but it told a compelling story unique to shooters of its kind. Unfortunately, graphically-superior titles like Killzone 2 relegated Resistance: Fall of Man and its sequel, Resistance 2, to footnote status as the PlayStation 3's library continued to expand and grow. But that's all set to change with Resistance 3's release on the horizon. The first thing you'll no doubt notice about Resistance 3 is that it's an absolutely gorgeous-looking game. But aesthetics aside, Resistance always drew gamers in because of its dreary environments and alternate history-meets-alien invasion storyline. If early news about Resistance 3 is any indication, humanity has decisively lost their battle against the forces of the alien Chimera, making your plight even more dark and dangerous. Resistance 3 seems primed to make believers out of those who wrote off the franchise in the previous years, while appealing to the hardcore fans of the series that made it a heavy seller early in the PlayStation 3's cycle.

Developer: Insomniac Games | Publisher: Sony | Arrives: Sept. 6, 2011
Key Characters: Joseph Capelli, Chimera

1908
The year of the Tunguska Event, the arrival of the Chimera to Earth.

Succeeds if it stays true to its dark, dreary, hopeless atmosphere.
Fails if humanity suddenly beats the Chimera at the end of the game. We need more Resistance!

5 INFAMOUS 2

Infamous 2 is, not surprisingly, the much-anticipated sequel to Sucker Punch's 2009 hit Infamous. A third-person game set in a post-apocalyptic landscape, the original Infamous garnered droves of fans not only due to its precise gameplay and riveting story, but because it gave gamers an entire locale – Empire City – to fully explore. The constrained-yet-open sandbox environment of Infamous was what really drew gamers in, and Infamous 2 promises not to disappoint, since there's an all-new city called New Marais for gamers to turn upside down. But Infamous was also about decisions and morality, and Infamous 2 endeavors to continue this tradition. Developer Sucker Punch has guaranteed that old saves from the original Infamous can be imported into the sequel, subtly affecting various story arcs and features based on decisions you made in the previous game. Taken as a whole, Infamous 2 is likely to be a powerhouse not only because it gives obsessed Infamous fans enough to differentiate between the two games, but stays true to what made it great in the first place. If there's one thing Sucker Punch has proven it's exceptionally good at, after all, it's listening to its fans.

Developer: Sucker Punch | Publisher: Sony | Arrives: 2011
Key Characters: Cole, Zeke, Bertrand

350
The amount of pesky Blast Shards to collect in the original Infamous.

Succeeds if it continues the great single-player sandbox action of the original game.
Fails if it tries to implement unwanted, unneeded and totally unnecessary multiplayer aspects.

6 DEAD SPACE 2

The original Dead Space scared the pants off of us, and it looks like Dead Space 2 is out to do the exact same thing. Isaac Clarke is back, but the horrors he saw on the USG Ishimura have scarred his psyche. They'll be no time to rest, however, as the space station he's on is infested with Necromorphs, reanimated corpses that are set to eat his flesh. What gets us all tingly over Dead Space 2 is how awesome it looks -- both in terms of graphics and as a package. It's stunningly beautiful as you blast the limbs off these horrible beasts and watch Isaac sprint through hell, but then there's the scale and scope of this game. We've been treated to a few demos, and we've seen Isaac battling huge monsters, getting sucked out into space, and continuing the fight on the side of ships sent to kill him. This sequel is set to take you places the original didn't even dream of.

Developer: Visceral Games | Publisher: EA | Arrives: Jan 25, 2011
Key Characters: Isaac Clarke, Necromorphs

12
Chapters that made up the first game and whose letters spelled "NICOLE IS DEAD."

Succeeds if Visceral keeps the scary vibe of the game while mixing in new stuff to keep us guessing at what's around the next corner.
Fails if single-player isn't inspired.

7 KILLZONE 3

It seems like only yesterday we left Sev dejected on some Helghan steps as a fleet of ships flew in to vaporize his friends. In 2011, we get to step back behind the assault rifle and take the fight to the red-eyed foes in Killzone 3.Needless to say, the game looks great. The smoke and fire effects are impressive, the brand new brutal melee kills are grotesque is all the right ways, and there are jet packs. JET PACKS, people! Killzone 3 looks to deliver the next installment in humanity's war with the Helghast and their sandy, inhospitable planet, and it's all a technical showcase for the PS3. Aside from keeping the stunning visuals, the title will have an optional PlayStation Move first-person control scheme and support 3D. Oh, and the insanely deep multiplayer is back and more fleshed out than ever.

Developer: Guerilla Games | Publisher: Sony | Arrives: Feb. 22, 2011
Key Characters: Tomas "Sev" Sevchenko, Rico Velasquez, Helghast

20
The minutes you needed beat Radec in for a Trophy in Killzone 2.

Succeeds if the game delivers a fresh experience that runs as well as if not better than Killzone 2.
Fails if it just feels like Killzone 2.5.

8 THE LAST GUARDIAN

There's a considerable mystique hanging over The Last Guardian, probably more-so than not only any game on our Top PS3 Games of 2011 list, but perhaps any game coming out on any platform next year. And that's simply because of who's creating it. The Japanese powerhouse known as Team Ico is highly respected in development circles, especially those involved with PlayStation platforms. Their first two games, PS2 titles known as ICO and Shadow of the Colossus, are considered two of the elite games on the platform and garnered an average score on IGN of 9.55.It may seem initially unimpressive that The Last Guardian is only Team Ico's third game, but when you consider the fact that they often go above and beyond to develop their games over many years, you're almost certain to end up with a unique and quality product that was well worth the wait. While specific details on The Last Guardian are currently scarce, we do know that the game involves the interaction of a boy and his pet beast. If that doesn't sound riveting to you, worry not. Roaming around a vacant landscape on horseback to fight random colossi didn't exactly move you from your seat either, did it?

Developer: Team Ico | Publisher: Sony | Arrives: 2011
Key Characters: That Boy, That Creature

14
The amount of years Team Ico has been in existence, with The Last Guardian being only its third game.

Succeeds if it's even remotely on the same level as the studio's previous two games, ICO and Shadow of the Colossus.
Fails if it doesn't live up to the hype of its extraordinarily long development cycle.

9 RAGE

Do you like first-person shooters? Then there's no single developer that you need to thank more than id, the creators of the entire genre that you know and love today. Nearly twenty years have gone by between the creation of the Wolfenstein 3D and today. And yet, this genre still holds a special place in gamers' hearts, especially now that it has wholly and successfully leaped from its original home on PCs to controller-friendly consoles like the PlayStation 3.Rage is the newest shooter from id, and if looks are any indication, Rage is primed to blow people away when it's released in September of 2011. But looks aren't all that matter. Sure, id is all about technical perfection, and Rage is bound to show us that, but gameplay is what really counts. If you want to know what Rage plays like, think Borderlands-meets-Fallout. And while the looks and gameplay are exciting enough, what's perhaps most exciting is that this is id's first big game in roughly seven years. So hold onto your seats, 'cause something tells us we're about to be blown away.

Developer: id | Publisher: Bethesda Softworks | Arrives: Sept. 13, 2011
Key Characters: Dan Hagar

1,024
The reported size, in gigabytes, of an uncompressed build of Rage.

Succeeds if it's anywhere remotely as groundbreaking as many of id's other titles.
Fails if it's a little too Borderlands-ish.

10 BATMAN: ARKHAM CITY

Insert whatever tired Batman cliché you have here to set the stage, but the short answer is we're pumped for the Dark Knight's return to the PS3. Sure, we know incredibly little about this game -- we've never even seen it in action -- but we do know enough to make us crazy with anticipation. If you missed it, Batman: Arkham Asylum came out in 2009 and blew the video game industry away -- it nabbed more than a few game of the year nods with its fast-paced combat and dark story. Now, from what we've pieced together, things have gone from bad to worse for the Caped Crusader. Arkham Asylum was once a remote island, but former warden Quincy Sharp has moved it into the heart of Gotham City. With walls sealing off the new home, it looks like Batman's left to police the place as villains like Two Face, Catwoman, Hugo Strange and more run wild in the streets. Color us intrigued.

Developer: Rocksteady | Publisher: Warner Bros. Interactive | Arrives: Fall 2011
Key Characters: Batman, Catwoman, Joker, Two Face

240
Number of Riddler Challenges in Arkham Asylum.

Succeeds if it takes what we loved in Arkham Asylum and builds on it -- more of the awesome story, more action and more of the villains.
Fails if it gets too big and loses its focus.

I believe you can't put games that are multi-platform in a PS3 only list.
